Protective Styling - It's That Time of Year Again...

Winter Dryness....Ughhh

When looking for extra moisture, one of my favoritie "Go-To" protectant styles are two-strand twists.

I usually start with freshly, washed & conditioned, dampened semi-stretched hair.

To achieve this look, I started by parting each section in fours then finger part into medium sized sections, these are not "mini" twists.

Products:  Jamaican Mango & Lime Loc Gel, Coconut Oil, Castor Oil, Water & Aloe Juice Mix; sealed with my favorite Shea Butter mixture (Unrefined Shea & Coconut Oil).

Maintenance:  This time around, since my hair was extremely dry, I took it wayyyy back to ol' skool &  moisturized daily with S-Curl Activating Moisturizer & used the "Bag Method" (slept with a shower/Jheri curl cap). In addition to sealing my strands(ends) with coconut oil and/or castor oil, I must say this really helped my hair retain extra moisture and made my hair very soft.

Duration:  6-7 weeks.

I found a bargain!

I got all this for $11 at cowtown!  I haven't tried them all but I intend to.  I bargain shop especially when it comes to hair products because it's costly, and these products get used up in no time due to our infinite need to lock in moisture.  "Ain't nobody got time for that"                                -MeiMei

Co-wash N Go

So it has definitely been a journey and it's far from over!! I didn't take the big chop route I actually let my perm grow out, and I cut it out little by little.  Im about 2 years in and perm free.  My hair hangs past my shoulders but in its natural state it definitely shrinks.  I went through a rough patch initially my hair changed texture, it was rough course and dry.  Managing my hair has been a struggle and I know my kinky ladies can relate.  As of late I'm a product junky on a budget, on the hunt at places like cowtown or farmers market looking for my next staple.  I co wash and buy/use a lot of conditioner.  I noticed the best results when I use my products in the shower, detangle, smooth from root to cuticle, and friction free dry.   Products used -3 Sisters of Nature coconut co wash, Pantene pro v conditioner,   Elasta QP curling pudding, Optimum Care 6 in 1 oil.               -MeiMei
